As a foundational partner of Game Plan, Queen’s Smith School of Business academic awards program supports Game Plan’s mission to empower Canada’s national team athletes to pursue excellence by helping them plan for their careers after competitive sport. The partnership with Smith offers a broad range of educational opportunities for athletes, including four MBA programs, a suite of specialized master’s programs, as well as a Certificate in Business, Graduate Diploma in Business and Queen’s Executive Education courses. Programs are offered in a variety of locations across Canada, some with flexible learning options that can accommodate athletes who are still training. All current and retired Sport Canada carded athletes who are also registered Game Plan athletes are eligible to apply for the scholarship.

To date, over 160 elite Canadian athletes have received academic awards to allow them to develop the skills to excel in the world of business. Below is some more information about some important upcoming application deadlines.

Executive Education

• The Smith + Game Plan partnership offers 10 open enrollment seats for Executive Education courses per calendar year
• Open enrollment programs are designed for business professionals at all levels
• Each Game Plan/COC athlete is eligible to enroll in 1 open enrollment seat per calendar year
• Enrollment is offered on a first-come, first-served basis, so it is important to apply early in the admission cycle
• 1 open enrollment seat can be applied to a variety of Executive Education programming options. Game Plan candidates should connect with a Smith Advisor to determine which programs are eligible

Smith Professional Master’s and Graduate Programs

• 23 Game Plan funding packages available each calendar year across 8 graduate programs:
  • Master of Digital Product Management
  • Master of Finance
  • Master of Financial Technology
  • Master of International Business
  • Master of Management Analytics
  • Master of Management in Artificial Intelligence
  • Master of Management Innovation and Entrepreneurship
  • Graduate Diploma of Business

Smith MBA Programs:

• 6 Game Plan funding packages available each calendar year, across 4 MBA programs:
  • Accelerated MBA
  • Executive MBA – National
  • Executive MBA—Americas
  • Full-Time MBA

Smith Certificate in Business Program:

• The Smith Certificate in Business offers students six introductory Commerce courses, which can be completed online over a duration of up to 5 years
• To be eligible, students must be enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program, or have completed an Bachelor’s degree with a GPA of 2.6 or higher
• There are three intakes offered per year, and applicants must apply one month prior to the start date
• The next available session is our Spring Intake, starting in May 2023
