You are invited to attend Christine Girard‘s medal ceremony. The event takes place at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa starting at 11am on Monday, December 3rd. As fellow Olympians, you are invited to attend in support of Christine’s journey and clean sport. Please confirm your attendance by e-mailing events@olympic.ca.

Earlier this year, it was announced that Christine has been officially upgraded to the gold medal in the 63kg weight class from the London 2012 Olympic Games. She’ll also be the owner of a bronze medal in the same division from the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, which had already been reallocated to her but not yet presented. Girard was initially awarded bronze in London to become Canada’s first ever female Olympic medallist in weightlifting. That came four years after she appeared to have missed the podium in Beijing by just three kilograms.

“I’m pretty proud of the athlete I was, probably more now than I was before because I understand differently what it means now,” she said after receiving the news that the gold medal would officially be hers. “I’m thrilled that I will get those medals… to make people proud that we are Canadian, that we have those values, that we can win in fair play and that we are true to ourselves and I think that’s where I’ll get my joy.”
